Being a Dietitian, I speak to people everyday about their diets...what they like, dont like, what they have for breakfast, lunch etc. Im always amazed at how many people dont eat enough protein during the day. All too often, its toast for breakfast, skipping lunch and snacking on fruits and biscuits. Where is the protein?? We NEED protein in our diet. Protein helps us stay full, protects our fat free mass, and helps us maintain a healthy metabolism.
Greek yogurt is great way to help us meet our daily protein requirements. Average person needs at least 60grams per day of protein. One normal pot of greek yogurt (150grams) has a huge 15grams of high quality protein.
I know, from speaking to people, that yogurts are getting a bad rep because of the added sugar etc. But please dont avoid plain, healthy yogurt. Its a cheap snack thats full of protein and calcium. Choosing a plain greek yogurt and adding your own flavours is a great way to enjoy this amazing food.
